The Site. We have got the website up and running. With the help of our Webmaster, David Flint, it is finally looking pretty good. We have some great new logos developed by Amy Sherman who will be working to improve the graphics around the site in the coming months. A few more tweaks and the site should be pretty much the way it is going to be for the next 12 months or so. We will be trying out different configurations with ads, perhaps reducing them with a target to make our site consistent with the AdBlock Plus acceptable ad guidelines and applying for while list status there.
Contributors. We have about 10 regular contributors who publish blogs fortnightly. We have another approximately 20 associate members who publish less regularly. I believe that the regular contributors’ posts have slowly been improving and that we are getting some good commentary out into the world. Ideally, I would like to have a team of thirty-two regular contributors to ensure daily content.
One serious problem that I have had is the lack of female regular contributors and a lack of regular contributors who come from the developing world. A goal for Judicalis in the coming year is to expand on both fronts. It is my view that a diversity of opinions will help us understand debates better and these are two areas that we are definitely lacking. I am also interested in expanding the site to include more sociological and economic analysis. As always, for those who are interested in blogging regarding the topics on our site, especially if you fill any of the aforementioned gaps, please drop us a line expressing your interest.
Publications. We managed to list a few publications on the site. We now have a member of RAND Europe on our staff and we are looking forward to sharing more open-access research with him on board. Our goal is to archive high-quality, open access pieces and we will be working hard to get that message out. (If you do have anything within our general remit that you would like to be archived here, please write us.) In the next two years, we hope to start a working paper series in order to promote interesting research that needs some time to get debated and improved on, perhaps, before it is ready to be published in a journal.
The Corporation. Legally, we have established ourselves as a non-profit organization, registered in the state of Illinois. We are currently applying for 501(c)(3) status.
Networking. We are currently working on building all of our networks. We have a small social media presence, something that we will strive to improve. One goal we have internally is to develop a college internship program to get college kids credit for interning with us in a marketing capacity. With some luck, we hope to have the program in place by the middle of 2014.
Finances. We are doing ok. We (luckily) cashed in on the bitcoin craze and earned a modest sum which enough to cover our overhead costs for our first two years.
Outlook. The Judicalis Group was a mere idea back in April and since then it has taken major steps to being realized. We still have a long way to go, but slowly we are making significant progress. This year will be one of recruiting more contributors and developing readership. With some luck, by this time next year, we will be able to start generating some attention for our writers and possibly working toward getting them paid for their work.
Comments and Feedback. As always, we all welcome your comments and feedback. Please write me at gundur [at] judicalis [dot] com and I will endeavor to respond to whatever it is you have to tell me regarding the site.
